CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 19-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team will take aim at the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship beginning on Thursday. The Hurricanes tee off at 9:40 a.m., in Pawleys Island, S.C. 

THE BASICS
-The tournament will follow a 54-hole format.
-Second and third round coverage of the ACC Championship will be aired on ACC Network Extra, starting Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
-The tournament will be played at the Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island on the par 72, 6,186-yard, Beach Course.

THE WORD ON THE CANES
The Miami women’s golf team has been a model of consistency throughout the 2016-17 season, as it has finished in the top five in eight of its nine tournaments this year. The Hurricanes are coming off a seventh-place finish on April 2 at the Bryan National Collegiate.

Miami enters this week’s ACC Championship with a team average of 289.81 strokes per round.
The Hurricanes posted an impressive 2016 fall season during which they posted three top-three finishes, including a dominating performance at the Mary Fossum Invitational, as Miami won by 40 strokes. The Hurricanes finished the fall campaign with a 286.22 team average.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Miami finished seventh at the 2017 Bryan National Collegiate on April 2 after it fired a final day team score of 296 and finished the event with a three-round score of 883. 

The tournament was held at the par 72, 6,386-yard Bryan Park Champions Course in Greensboro, N.C.

Sophomore Dewi Weber just missed her seventh top-10 finish of the 2016-17 season, as she tied for 11th. Weber finished the tournament with a three-round total of 216. The Netherlands native carded a final round 73 and registered birdies on holes 9 and 13.

DEWI CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
The Canes are led by sophomore standout Dewi Weber, who has posted top-10 finishes in eight of her last 11 tournaments dating back to the 2016 spring season. Weber is currently ranked No. 15 by Golfstat.com and is the fifth-highest-ranked women’s golfer in the ACC.

Additionally, Weber claimed individual crowns in two of the Hurricanes’ three tournaments this past fall, winning outright titles at the Mary Fossum Invitational and the Betsy Rawls Invitational.

HURRICANE FRESHMEN MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Miami freshmen Macarena Aguilera, Renate Grimstad and Filippa Moork have made an immediate impact this season, propelling the Hurricanes to a top-20 ranking for the entire spring campaign. 

During the 2016-17 season, the three Hurricane rookies have competed in 72 rounds, 25 events and have posted five top-10 finishes.

In addition, Miami’s freshman trio has posted an average score of 74.47, which ranks fourth among all NCAA Division I teams, according to Golfstat.com.

-Posted her best finish of the spring at the Hurricane Invitational on March 1, as she tied for ninth.  
-Tied for 35th at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
-Tied for 14th at the Florida Challenge to open the spring season.
-Tied for 15th at the Jim West Challenge.
-Opened the 2016-17 season by finishing third at the Fossum Invitational.  
-Owns eight career top-10 finishes.
-Posted her best career finish at the 2016 ACC Championship as she tied for 27th.

Renate Grimstad
-Owns a scoring average of 74.81 in 26 rounds this season.
