@CanesVB Signs Outside Hitter Cameron Dobbs

CORAL GABLES. Fla. – University of Miami head volleyball coach Jose “Keno” Gandara is excited to announce the addition of Cameron Dobbs to the Hurricanes family.

A talented volleyball player from the state of Georgia, Dobbs signed a national letter of intent with the Hurricanes on Wednesday and will join the Canes for the 2017 season.

I am excited to add Cam to an already strong group of returners. She is skilled, competitive, and committed,” Gandara said. “Cam is a mature, competitive outside hitter with a powerful arm. Her skill set is well developed for a senior in high school. Most importantly, she is hard working and highly motivated both in the gym and the classroom.

Cameron Dobbs | Outside Hitter | 6-2 | Douglasville, Ga. | Landmark Christian School

An AVCA Under Armour High School All-American in 2016, Dobbs was a four-year starter at Landmark Christian School and served as team captain over the final three seasons of her career. The gifted outside hitter helped Landmark Christian reach the state championship game in 2015 and amassed over 2,000 kills, 1,000 digs and hit .367 in her career. A four-time all-area, all-state and all-state tournament selection, Dobbs was named area and state player of the year following each of the final three seasons of her high school career. In addition to her success at Landmark Christian, Dobbs was a standout for her the A5 Mizuno Volleyball Club, winning Beast of the Southeast in 2015 and 2016, as well as Southern Dream and Icebreaker Championships in 2017.

“The University of Miami is a perfect fit for me,” Dobbs said. “I was seeking a university with high academic rankings, along with a volleyball program with a high level of competition and tradition of excellence. Miami provided both. Being a communication major, the communications program and vast academic offerings taught within a classroom of only 20-30 students was impressive. The ability to take broadcast major classes as a freshman was also attractive to me.

On the court, I am excited to play at Miami for Coach Keno, Coach Kasey, and Coach Jill, who bring enthusiasm, a tremendous work ethic, a strong desire for success, and a great breadth and depth of playing and coaching experience, including international play. They set the bar high and expect greatness. The Miami players are skilled, fierce competitors, All-ACC, and All-Americans and it is an honor to play alongside and learn from them.

Lastly, the beautiful, warm, Miami campus with the water and lush tropical grounds is like paradise and immediately drew me in to call this my collegiate home.”
