CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three members of the University of Miami women’s basketball team were chosen as All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team honorees, as announced Friday morning.
Laura Cornelius, Emese Hof and Jessica Thomas were each among the 30 selections, as Miami tied for the third-most players on the team.
This is the first time in program history Miami has had three players make the prestigious list, surpassing the prior high of two set just one year ago.
Hof and Thomas have now made the All-ACC Academic Team in back-to-back years, becoming the third and fourth Hurricanes to be recognized multiple times, along with Tatjana Marincic and Stefanie Yderstrom.
A sophomore guard from Groningen, Netherlands, Cornelius is averaging 8.3 points per game this season. Her 40.2 percent mark from 3-point range ranks sixth in the conference. Cornelius, who has yet to declare her major, has a 3.424 career GPA and was selected to the Dean’s List (minimum 3.5 GPA) in the fall.
Hof, who hails from Utrecht, Netherlands, is averaging 6.2 points per game and shooting 51.4 percent from the field. The sophomore forward/center leads the Hurricanes in blocked shots with 29. Hof, who is also undeclared academically, sports a 3.563 career GPA and has made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.2) in each of her three semesters.
A Blue Ribbon Panel Second Team All-ACC selection, Thomas is averaging a career-best 13.2 points per game in her senior campaign. The guard’s 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game both pace the Hurricanes. Thomas, a sport administration major, has a 3.086 GPA in her career and has been named to the Book Buster’s Club (min. 3.0) three times.
No. 16/16 Miami (22-7, 10-6 ACC) will be back in action Friday at 6 p.m., when it faces No. 8/12 Florida State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Conway, S.C.
