The Quest Out West Begins on Friday
The University of Miami women’s golf team opens play at the NCAA Championship on Friday at 11:36 a.m. EST. The tournament, hosted by the University of Oregon, will be held at the par 72, 6,369-yard Eugene Country Club.
THE BASICS
-All 24 teams and 12 individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play, begininng Friday and running through Sunday.
-Following the 54 holes of stroke play, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will move on for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion.
-The top eight teams after 72-holes will be placed into a bracket and will begin match play competition on Tuesday. Match play competition concludes on Wednesday.

-Saturday, May 21 – Second Round – 4:06 p.m. EST (Miami will tee off from hole No. 10)

THE CANES AND THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hurricanes enter the NCAA Championship for the 24th time in program history. The Hurricanes have won five national championships with their last coming in 1984. Miami’s last appearance in the NCAA Championship was in 1992, where it placed 10th.
WEBER AND DARQUEA EARN WGCA HONORS
Freshman Dewi Weber and junior Daniela Darquea from the University of Miami Women’s Golf Team were named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-Region Teams on May 17. The All-Region teams are based on the top-10 finishers and ties at each of the NCAA Regional Championships.
Weber was named to the team after she paced the Hurricanes at the NCAA Regional in Bryan, Texas. The Netherlands native finished the regional with a three-round total of 210 and placed third. Her third-place finish was her lowest finish of the year and fourth top 10 finish this season.
Darquea earned a spot on the all-region team after she tied for eighth with a three-round total of 215. The Ecuador native has finished in the top 10 on seven different occasions during the 2015-16 season.

– Holds the ACC’s best scoring average of 71.9 strokes per round.
– Has posted 10 rounds of 70-or-less this year.

Dewi Weber
– Named WGCA All-Region.
– Holds a scoring average of 73.1.
– Has four top 10 finishes this season, including a season-best third-place finish at the NCAA Regional.
– Tied for 29th at the ACC Championship.
– Has posted seven rounds of 70-or-less this year.
Delfina Acosta
– Holds a season scoring average of 75.2.
– Has logged a pair of top 15 finishes this season.
– Tied for 27th at the ACC Championship.
– Her 66 in the second round of the Dick McGuire Invitational is the team’s lowest individual round of the year.
Luiza Altmann
– Holds a scoring average of 76.3.
– Was not on the roster during the fall campaign. Joined the team for the start of the spring and has played in every tournament since the start of the spring campaign.
– Tied for 48th at the ACC Championship.
Kailey Walsh
– Will compete in her 41st collegiate event this week.
– Holds a season scoring average of 76.3.
– Tied for 45th at the ACC Championship.
– Her best finish of the season came at the Bryan National Collegiate, where she tied for 30th.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
The University of Miami women’s golf team made history on May 7, as it punched its ticket to the 2016 NCAA Championship. The Hurricanes’ NCAA Championship bid is their first since 1992.
The Hurricanes earned the championship bid after they placed fifth with a three-round total of 877. Miami opened the day in sixth place and was able to hold off strong final rounds from Kent State and Tulane to seal their berth in the NCAA Championship.
Freshman Dewi Weber led the way for the Hurricanes, as she posted a final round 71 to close the event with a three-round total of 210 and finish third. Weber’s third-place finish was her lowest finish of the year and her fourth top-10 finish.
Weber was one-over-par on the front nine, but then closed out the round strong, as she tallied a pair of birdies on the back nine.
ON THE NATIONAL STAGE
Prior to the 2015-16 campaign, junior Daniela Darquea competed in the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open. Darquea earned a trip to the U.S. Women’s Open after she won medalist honors at the regional qualifier in Bradenton, Fla.
