Six Canes Rowers Earn UM Degrees
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Six members of the Hurricanes rowing program will participate in the University of Miami Commencement ceremonies this weekend.
Seniors Lindsay Bouchacourt, Nicola Eick, Meghan Hamilton, Hannah Meister, Kelly O’Boyle and Devon Phelan-Patton will walk across the stage and accept their diplomas as part of the Spring Commencement exercises from May 7-9 at the BankUnited Center.
Bouchacourt was a member of Miami’s rowing program for three years, competing as a novice in 2012-13 and as a member of the varsity the past two seasons. Bouchacourt was a member of the V4+ that won the petite final at the 2014 ACC Rowing Championship. She also helped the Canes win in head-to-head races against UCF and UConn. A 2014 CRCA Scholar Athlete, Bouchacourt graduates with a bachelor’s degree in advertising.
Eick was a member of Miami’s rowing program for three years, competing in the 2V8+ and V4+ in her time in Coral Gables. She was a member of the 2V8+ that placed fifth at the 2014 ACC Rowing Championship and helped the 2V8+ total three victories at the 2014 UCF Invitational. Eick graduates with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
Hamilton was a four-year member of Miami’s rowing program, beginning as a novice in 2011-12 and competing with the varsity over the next three seasons. A coxswain, Hamilton climbed all the way to the top varsity boat over the course of her career. She coxed the 1V8+ that placed sixth in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic and won the 1V8+ third level final at Knecht Cup.A 2013-14 All-ACC Academic selection, Hamilton graduates with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology.
Meister is a four-year member of the Miami rowing program, where she has consistently raced as member of the 1V8+ and 2V8+. Meister is a two-time CRCA Scholar Athlete and has been a key member of several successful Hurricane boats, including the 1V8+ that won the third level final at the Knecht Cup. Meister graduates with a bachelor’s degree in visual journalism.
O’Boyle was a member of the rowing program for four years, competing primarily as a member of the 1V4+. She was a member of the V4+ that won the Petite Final at the 2014 ACC Championship and also helped the Canes earn victories over UConn. O’Boyle graduates with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Phelan-Patton has rowed for the Hurricanes for the past four years, primarily on the 1V8+ and 2V8+. This season, she helped Miami’s 1V8+ win the third level final at the Knecht Cup and was part of the 1V8+ that placed sixth in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic. She was also a member of the 2V8+ that finished fifth in the Grand Final at the 2014 ACC Championship. Phelan Patton graduates with a bachelor’s degree in health science.
