ACC & Miami Promote #ACCSportsmanship Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Along with the ACC and other conference members, the University of Miami will be participating in #ACCSportsmanship Week beginning today, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 5.

Now in it its fifth year, the campaign aims to promote and emphasize awareness for sportsmanship as it relates to the league’s schools, coaches, student-athletes and fans. Three weeks during the 2014-15 academic year are selected as ACC Sportsmanship Weeks: Sept. 29-Oct. 5 (fall), Jan. 19-25 (winter) and April 6-12 (spring).

“Sportsmanship continues to be one of the most important values within the ACC, and through this initiative we bring its importance to the forefront,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “We’re proud of our member institutions’ continued efforts to promote and instill the values of sportsmanship throughout the year.”

The Hurricanes will be hosting three athletic events during #ACCSportsmanship Week, including two volleyball matches against Clemson (Oct. 3) and Florida State (Oct. 5) as well as a soccer game versus the Seminoles (Oct. 4).

Miami and the rest of the conference will raise awareness by taking part in a pregame handshake with their opponent at all ACC home games. As well as the teams’ efforts, the conference and member schools will highlight the initiative to fans on social media using #ACCSportsmanship.

In total, 55 intercollegiate athletic events are scheduled to take place during the 2014 fall ACC Sportsmanship Week. All fall sports will be involved.
