@CanesVB Drop Five-Set Match to TCU, 3-2
FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Miami battled for five sets against TCU, but could not overcome the host Horned Frogs, 3-2.
The Canes dropped the first set, 25-23, but charged back to even the match at one set apiece, taking the second set, 25-19. TCU took a 2-1 lead when they took the third set, 25-17, but Miami charged back in the fourth set.
Miami jumped out to a 13-4 lead and ultimately forced a decisive fifth set with their 25-17 victory in the fourth set. The Hurricanes led by as many as three points in the final set, but could not hold on as TCU took the set, 15-12, and the match in five sets.
Savanah Leaf was one of four Canes to finish with double-digit kills. The senior led Miami with 18 kills and nine blocks, along with 11 digs to record a double-double. Sophomore Kelsie Groot registered her second double-double of the day, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs, as well as three of Miami’s six service aces
Senior Emani Sims and freshman Sakile Simmons also tallied double-digit kills, recording 11 and 10, respectively. Sims was second on the team with eight blocks, while Simmons collected four blocks against TCU.
Junior defensive specialist Kalysta White led Miami with 17 digs and added a service ace, while setters Haley Templeton and Caitilin Donahoe combined to dish out 53 assists.
Miami also got contributions from junior Taylor Scott (5 kills & 12 digs) and freshmen Brooke McDermott, Sylvia Hernandez and Michele Marenus.
The Hurricanes’ final match of the weekend is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday against Prairie View A&M.
