Darquea Named WGCA All-American Scholar

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes freshman golfer Daniela Darquea was named to the 2013-14 All-American Scholar Team by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

A total of 664 women’s collegiate golfers in Divisions I, II and III were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

In May, Darquea was named an honorable mention WGCA All-American, becoming the first Miami golfer to receive All-America recognition since Julia Brand in 1994.

The All-ACC and All-ACC Academic performer started all 10 tournaments as a freshman, leading the Hurricanes to a berth in the 2014 NCAA Central Regional in Oklahoma. She led the Canes with a 73.00 scoring average, which ranks as second on Miami’s single-season list. After one season in Coral Gables, she owns four of the 10 lowest 36-hole scores in school history as well as the second-lowest 54-hole tally.

Darquea recorded four rounds of 68 or better (67, 67, 68, 68) – the most in a single season in school history.
