McGillis Joins Athletic Communications Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Taylor McGillis has been named Assistant Director of Communications, the University of Miami Athletics Department announced Monday.
With McGillis’ addition to the Communications staff, Scott Zavitz, who was an Assistant Director of Communications for six years, transitions to a marketing role, where he will handle men’s and women’s basketball marketing duties.
“Taylor is one of the most dynamic young stars in this field and he has an insatiable desire to better himself each day,” Director of Communications Chris Yandle said. “His social media aptitude and knowledge of cutting-edge applications are a huge addition to our communications team.”
McGillis comes to Miami after spending the previous six months as the Manager of Athletic Communications at his alma mater, Saint Leo University, in Tampa. At SLU, he was the primary contact for baseball, women’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf.
Prior to his full-time role at St. Leo, McGillis spent two years as a Communications Intern at St. Leo, serving as the primary contact for men’s and women’s golf. During the summer of 2012, he was an intern at the University of Miami in the Communications and Marketing departments. He helped Miami’s summer social media push and its web site transition as well as assisting with various communications projects.
McGillis was a three-year baseball letterwinner for St. Leo and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2011-12 academic year. A member of CoSIDA, McGillis graduated in 2012 from St. Leo with a bachelor’s degree in sport business.
