Williams Shines at NCAA East Preliminary
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami track and field program wrapped up its showing the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary with a strong performance from senior All-American Samantha Williams.
The standout jumper cleared 42’ 3.50’ in the women’s triple jump to advance to the finals of the event. Williams positioned herself fourth among 48 competitors, qualifying for the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the second consecutive year with her best jump of the 2013 outdoor season.
While Williams shined on Saturday, she was not the only Hurricane competing in the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary.
The women’s 4x100m relay team placed 22nd, with Alyssa McClure, Jokira Jiles, Jasmyne King and Kelsey Balkwill finishing the race in 45.67 seconds.
John-Patrick Friday also competed Saturday, finishing 43rd in the men’s high jump. The freshman cleared 6’ 6.75” in the first NCAA preliminary of his career.
