WoMen's Golf Signs Acosta to NLI
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Delfina Acosta, rated the No. 1 amateur women’s golfer in Argentina, has signed a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-14 academic year, University of Miami head coach Patti Rizzo announced Thursday.
Acosta joins Ecuador’s No. 1 golfer, Daniela Darquea, who signed with the Hurricanes in November.
“We are very excited to have Delfy join our program,” Rizzo said. “She is going to help us begin to soar to the top of the college rankings. She is an amazing ball-striker and a great putter. She knows how to win.”
Ranked No. 89 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Acosta won the 2012 South American Amateur Championship, shooting 5-under, and finished fourth in 2013. She has won back-to-back Copa de Oro titles, including a 14-stroke victory in 2013 with a 4-under 212. In March, she won the Abierta del Centro, while also claiming four national junior titles in 2012.
Acosta was a member of the Argentinian team that won the 2012 Copa Los Andes. As an individual, she finished third at the South American Junior Championship in 2012 and sixth in 2013.
The Comandante Nicanor Otamendi, Argentina, native also won the 2009 Doral-Publix Junior Golf Classic and posted two Top-10 finishes (2011, 2013) at the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.
“She is an amazing player and will be a tremendous addition to our team,” assistant coach John Koskinen said. “Both Delfy and Daniela are ranked in the Top 100 in the WAGR and have been playing against the best players in the world.”
