XC Heads to NCAA South Regional

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Universityof Miami cross country teams will travel to Florida State on Friday to competein the NCAA South Regional at Apalachee Regional Park. Two UM women will runthe 6k course, while six men will competed in the 10k.

“Weare excited to be competing at the South Regional,” assistant cross countrycoach Damon Griffith said. “We have done well against these teams the entireseason. They have a chance to close the season with momentum that will carryover to the track season.”

JuniorsLindsi Arrington and Alaine Tate will represent the Hurricanes on the women’sside. Arrington has posted the best time for UM in all five meets she hascompeted in this season, with her best 6k time of 22:01.4 coming recently atthe ACC Championships at Virginia Tech. Tate, a transfer from Hampton, hasturned in a solid first season with the Canes, running her best 6k time (23:03)at the UCF Black & Gold Invitational last month.

Miamiwill bring a contingent of six men to Tallahassee to run a 10k race for thefirst time this season, led by junior Sean Pezzulo. Earning the best UM time infour meets, he won ACC Performer of the Week with a mark of 26:58.23 at theseason-opening USF Invitational (8k). Senior Greg Kaczka also looks for anothersolid time after having a team-best time of 25:39.9 at the ACC Championships(8k). Junior JaCee Jarnagin, freshman Bert Irigoyen, junior Luke Fontaine andfreshman Kevin Marsh will also run for Miami on Friday.

Thewomen will start at 8:30 a.m., while the men will go at 9:15 a.m. The top twoteams and selected individual times will automatically earn a berth to the NCAANationals.
