Hurricanes Drop Match To Illinois State, 3-1

NORMAL, Ill. – Junior right side Alex Johnson pickedup her third double-double of the season, but the University of Miamivolleyball team suffered its first loss of the season at Illinois StateUniversity, 3-1, on Saturday at the Redbird Classic. Prior to the defeat, UMhad won its last 22 non-conference regular season matches.

TheRedbirds (3-2), the hosts of the tournament, won by the set scores of 17-25,25-23, 25-23 and 25-11.

Johnson ledthe Canes (5-1) with 12 kills to go with 12 digs, while outside hitters TaylorHollins (11) and Savanah Leaf (10) also recorded double-digit kills. Juniorlibero Ryan Shaffer paced the visitors with a match-high 19 digs. It was thefirst true road match for Miami this season.

BrooklynHlafka of ISU led the match with 15 kills off the bench.

TheHurricanes will return to the Redbird Classic today at 5:30 p.m. ET to take onPresbyterian.
