No. 22 Miami Volleyball Falls in Epic Match at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 22 University of Miami volleyball team played a five-set match for the second consecutive night Saturday, this time falling at Clemson by a 3-2 count inside Jervey Gymnasium in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. The Hurricanes dropped the match on scores of 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 10-15. With the loss, Miami drops to 24-4 overall and 15-4 in the ACC. The Clemson Tigers improved their record to 19-11 overall and 11-8 in the ACC. With it being just the fourth loss on the year for the Canes, three of those have come on the road – and two of them by five-set decisions. Miami hit above .300 in the first and third set, respectively, both of which were sets the Hurricanes won. In the losses, the Canes hit at just over the .120 mark for average. UMiami redshirt senior outside hitter Christine Williamson (Tampa, Fla.) combined with senior All-America outside hitter Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) for a team-high 13 kills in the match. Carico added 21 digs for her 10th-straight double-double performance. Setter Katie Gallagher (Winter Park, Fla.) also registered a double-double effort with 47 assists and 14 digs. Hurricanes redshirt freshman middle blocker Emani Sims (Glenview, Ill.) finished the night with 12 kills and five blocks. Clemson was led by two players collecting 20-plus kills, sparked by Sandra Adeleye’s 27. Serenat Yaz added an even 20 for the Tigers, also collecting 13 digs for the double-double. Setter Hannah Brenner handed out a match-high 68 assists and sprawled out for 18 digs. Miami will look to get back on track when it hosts the final home match of the regular season against No. 21 Florida State on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. inside the James L. Knight Sports Complex. |
