DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Miami’s Ti’erra Brown reached the finals of the 100m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday night at Drake Stadium.
Brown advanced to the 100m hurdle final for the second straight year as she finished the first of three semifinal heats in third place at 13.08 seconds out of lane two.
Fellow senior Takecia Jameson came up just short in reaching her first national final in the event, finishing the third heat in 13.61 seconds.
Brown will return to the track on Friday at 7:35 p.m. EST as she will compete in her fourth 400m hurdle national championship race. On Wednesday, the Hampton, Va. native ran her season-best time in the national semifinals in 55.59 seconds to advance.
“Ti’erra is excited and focused for both the 100 and 400m hurdles,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “We are just taking one event at a time.”
Already a five-time All-America performer, Brown will look to improve on her national runner-up finish from a season ago and claim her first NCAA Championship.
Also on Thursday, junior Devon Hill ran a 13.66-second time in the third and final heat of the 110m hurdle national semifinal, just 0.12 seconds shy of reaching his first NCAA finals race. In his previous race at the NCAA quarterfinals in Bloomington, Ind., Hill – the ACC Champion in the event – raced to school record and East quarterfinal-best time of 13.64 seconds.
“Unfortunately only Ti’erra advanced to the finals on Saturday,” said Deem. “I’m very proud of how Devon performed this year and I know he will be even more motivated next season.”
CBS will provide television coverage on Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s coverage, from 1-3 p.m. (EST), will be carried on the CBS network with Ian Eagle calling the action, along with analysis and interviews from Larry Rawson, Carol Lewis and Dan O’Brien.
Coverage on Friday, June 10, will be provided from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
