Hurricanes Edged by ODU in First Race of the Season

Norfolk, Va.–The University of Miami women’s rowing team was edged by Old Dominion in its first race of the season. The young squad traveled to Norfolk, Va., on Saturday for a race against the Monarchs on the Lafayette River. The ‘Canes raced two Varsity Eights in the competition and added a Varsity 4 in a scrimmage.

The Monarchs took an early lead during the 1V8 race and never looked back, crossing the line 10.7 seconds ahead of the ‘Canes who finished in a time of 6:58.6. The second race of the day saw ODU take an early lead before the ‘Canes forged back to make it a tight race. After neck and neck competition down the stretch, ODU pulled out a three second lead to defeat the ‘Canes (7:22.0-7:25.0).

The Miami women’s rowing team returns to action at Knect Cup in Cherry Hill, NJ, April 8-10.
