Volleyball's Mayhew Tabbed ACC Co-Player of the Week

Greensboro, N.C. – Miami junior outside hitter Genny Mayhew, along with North Carolina’s Briana Eskola, has been named one-half of the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week duo as released on Monday afternoon by the conference office in Greensboro, N.C.

Mayhew, a native of Clovis, Calif., led all performers this week with 20 kills and 12 digs to go along with four blocks (two solo) and two assists. She was instrumental in Miami sweeping back-to-back road wins against Maryland and Boston College. In the process, she helped to carry UM to their first-ever road win over Maryland, as well as their first season series sweep of the Terps. Mayhew was a Preseason All-ACC selection from the coaches and media covering the ACC.

In the win over Maryland, Mayhew smashed 14 kills and posted nine digs, two blocks and two assists. On Saturday against Boston College, Mayhew posted her fifth .400 hitting performance with six kills and zero errors on 15 swings in only two sets of action. She finished the weekend with robust averages of 4.00 kills per set and 2.40 digs per set.

Mayhew is currently second on the team in kills (295) while holding a .220 clip to go along with a team fourth-best 41 blocks and fourth-best 230 digs.

As for UNC’s Eskola, she picked up 48 digs in wins over Virginia and Virginia Tech over the weekend. The Columbia Heights, Minnesota native made 30 digs against the Cavaliers and 18 more on Saturday against the Hokies. She improved her digs per set total from 4.85 entering the weekend to a new league best average of 4.95.

Miami will host Georgia Tech (Nov. 14) and Clemson (Nov. 16) this weekend at the James L. Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, Fla. On Sunday, Nov. 16, the Hurricanes will celebrate “Senior Day” as they say good-bye to student-athletes Bridget Bomhack, Angelica Ellis and Ashley Woods.
