Hurricanes Finish 19th at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sophomore Christina Hirano posted a three-over par 75 in the final round Tuesday and the University of Miami women’s golf team finished 19th at the 2008 Cougar Classic hosted by College of Charleston at Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club.
Jennifer Hirano paced the Hurricanes finishing the tournament tied for 47th at 11-over par (227). She shot a 78 on the final day of competition. Christina Hirano posted the Hurricanes third best score of the tournament on Tuesday. She shot 39 on the front nine before finishing strong with a 36 on the back nine. She finished tied for 59th place at 13-over-par (229).
Sophomore Maria Ronderos opened up Tuesday shooting a 37 on the front nine. Ronderos shot 77 on the day and tied for 76th on the leaderboard. Freshman Begona Sarabia shot 78 in the final round and tied for 82nd. Senior Anabelle Paulino (Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic) closed out the tournament shooting an eight-over-par 80 rounding out the scoring for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes recorded a 308 for the third straight day to finish with a 924 for the tournament.
Miami returns to action Oct. 12-14 when the Hurricanes travel to Greensboro, N.C. for the UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic.
