Miami Volleyball Hosts 8th Annual Hurricane Invitational

COMPLETE HURRICANE INVITATIONAL NOTES
The University of Miami Hurricanes volleyball team hosts the 8th Annual Hurricane Invitational on Sept. 4-6 at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the campus of UM in Coral Gables, Fla. The `Canes play host to opponents Alabama, South Dakota State and VCU.
Miami (4-0) captured last weekend’s Century Tel Premier Tournament title by sweeping through Sacramento State, Texas State, Texas-Pan American and Louisiana-Monroe. The event was hosted by Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
Junior outside hitter Genny Mayhew (Clovis, Calif.) was named Tournament MVP as she collected back-to-back double-doubles in kills and digs to open the tournament against Sacramento State and Texas State, respectively. Also earning spots on the All-Tournament Team were setter Katie Gallagher (Winter Park, Fla.) and libero/defensive specialist Cassie Loessberg (Sacramento, Calif.).
Freshman Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) turned in a solid performance last week with double-doubles in the first two matches of her career for the Orange and Green.
The first match of the tournament also serves as the home-opener for Miami as they take on South Dakota State at 6 p.m. From there, the `Canes will have a day off before squaring off against Alabama and VCU on Saturday, Sept. 6. The first match for UM on Saturday is at 11 a.m. versus Alabama, followed by the nightcap at 6 p.m. against the VCU Rams.
