The University of Miami volleyball team takes to the road for their season-opener this weekend as they participate in the Century Tel Premier Tournament in San Marcos, Texas.

Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch, the Hurricanes are one of four participating schools in this weekend’s tournament hosted by Texas State University. Sacramento State, Louisiana-Monroe and Texas-Pan American, as well as host Texas State all join the Hurricanes in this weekend’s non-stop volleyball action.

UM kicks things off against Sacramento State on Friday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 pm, followed by a match later that evening with homestanding Texas State at 7:30.

This will be the first time the `Canes are matching up against three of the four opponents they face this weekend. Miami dropped its only meeting with Sacramento State by a count of 3-0 on Sept. 16, 2005. The match was a part of the Orange and Green Challenge in Coral Gables.

Miami and Sacramento State will see each other again shortly thereafter on Sept. 13 when they take part in the San Francisco Tournament in California.

The first home match for the `Canes will be Sept. 4-6 when they host the annual Hurricane Invitational at the Knight Sports Complex. Season and individual match tickets are on sale and available by calling (800) G0-CANES. You can also order online by visiting www.hurricanesports.com.
