Harris Guarantees Spot in NCAA National Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–  The University of Miami’s four-time All-American Tim Harris advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with his fourth-place finish in the 800-meters at the NCAA East Region Final at Mike Long Track on the campus of FloridaStateUniversity.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

With his third-fastest time of the season (1:47.52), the four-time All-American Harris will represent the Hurricanes in the NCAA 800-meter National Championships.  The senior finished fourth on Saturday, with the top five finishers advancing to the national championships in two weeks.

 

“He (Harris) led all but the last 10 meters,” said head coach Mike Ward.  “He stuck to his strategy of jumping out to a quick lead, it just didn’t result in a win.  The most important thing is that he will be running at the National Championships.

 

Sophomore Cory Nelms ran his second personal-best time in two days with a 50.75, seventh place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.  Nelms ends his season as the 22nd-ranked collegiate hurdler in the nation.

 

Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa will play host to the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Tack and Field National Championships, June 11-14.
