Hurricanes Place Eighth at ACC Golf Championship

Daytona Beach, Fla. – University of Miami freshman Christina Hirano and senior Jessica Steward finished among the top-25 golfers to lead the Hurricanes to an eighth-place showing at the ACC Women’s Golf Championship at the Legends Course of LPGA International on Sunday. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Hirano dropped a stroke from Saturday’s performance to fire off a 75 on Sunday, finishing with an eight-over-par 224 (73-76-75) over 54 holes to tie for 15th place in her first ACC Championship. Steward followed up a solid showing on Saturday, matching her score of 76 to finish in a tie for 25th place with 232 strokes (80-76-76) over the three rounds.
With a combined total of 933 strokes, the Hurricanes placed eighth of nine teams, while Duke claimed its 13th straight ACC title with 871 strokes – led by Amanda Blumenhurst, who claimed her third-straight ACC title. In the closest finish in ACC history, Virginia finished one stroke back in second place.
Miami’s Maria Ronderos tied for 33rd place (74-77-83-234), while Hagen Weintraub placed 39th (73-86-84-243) and Brooke Stuart posted her best round on Sunday to finish in 45th (92-93-87-272).
