Senior Tim Harris had a goal coming into the Miami Elite, and it was to set the school record in the 1,500-meters, an event that isn’t his specialty, the 800-meters.  With the home crowd watching him for the last time, the four-time All-American didn’t disappoint, breaking the nine-year old record with a time of 3:53.38. The old record of 3:54.03 was set in 1999 by sophomore Christian Zarandona.

Andrew Chuplis and Ryan Woodlee both competed in the 1,500-meters as well and placed third and sixth, with times of 4:06.88 and 4:11.36 respectively.

Harris joined Patrick Blackie, Roland DaSilva and senior Richard Bernard in the 4×400-meter relay, taking fourth place with a time of 3:16.69.

Cory Nelms improved his NCAA regional mark in the 110-hurdles with a time of 13.95, ranking him 16th in the nation.  Senior Brett Jones followed Nelms at 14.77.

With the spring football schedule complete, the sprinters were back in action for the Hurricanes.  Freshman Demarcus VanDyke posted the second-best collegiate time in the 100-meters, crossing the finish line at 10.72.  Fellow freshmen Shawnbrey McNeil (10.78) and Damien Berry (11.58) also competed with sophomore Bruce Johnson recording a time of 10.90.

Patrick O’Donnell reached a new personal-best in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.54, as he finished second in the event.

Another senior, Alex Paley ran a personal-best time in his final home meet.  The Albany, N.Y. native won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:44.16.

Senior Khalil Jones ran in the 200-meters and recorded a time of 22.14 seconds.

Junior Chris Tringali came in fourth place in the javelin with a throw of 42.49m as senior Ryan Welter finished right behind him at 38.17m.

Elan Daviglus came a centimeter short of matching his season-best mark in the high jump as he leapt 2.00m for the second time this year.  Freshman Diego Rosado also tied his season-best mark at 1.85m.

Senior Casey McGinn recorded his third win in four meets as he reached 4.75m for the third straight week in the pole vault.

The Hurricanes now prepare for the ACC Outdoor Championships that begin next Thursday, April 17 and run through Saturday, April 19.  Georgia Tech plays host to the event in Atlanta.  Next year the ACC Championships will be held at the University of Miami’s own Cobb Stadium.
