Miami Volleyball Adds Alvarez to Incoming Recruiting Class

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami head volleyball coach Nicole Lantagne Welch has announced that Tatiana Alvarez will join the Hurricanes’ three other incoming freshman next fall.

Alvarez, a local South Florida native from Miami, joins middle blocker Ariell Cooke (San Leandro, Calif.), setter Katie Gallagher (Winter Park, Fla.), and outside/middle blocker Christine Williamson (Tampa, Fla.).

The 5-1 libero, hails from Miami’s Florida Christian, where she helped the Patriots advance to the District 15-3A championship semi-finals. Alvarez registered an impressive 23 digs at the state championships, and wrapped-up a stunning season with 325 digs and 35 aces.

In 2006 Alvarez was named Defensive MVP, All-Dade First Team, and earned All-State Honorable Mention. She was also named to the 2005 All-Dade Second Team.

Alvarez is a member of the National Honor Society, and has been nominated by the Miami Herald for a Silver Knight award in music.

The Hurricanes open the 2007 season at home as they host the Green and Orange Challenge, August 24-25. Miami will welcome Hofstra University, Jacksonville University, and Butler University.
