Faluade, Seward & Etienne Advance at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – University of Miami seniors Brenda Faluade and Amy Seward each qualified for the finals of the long jump while classmate Ginou Etienne advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meters during Wednesday’s opening-day action at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium.

Faluade earned a berth into Thursday’s finals of the long jump, scheduled for 8 p.m. (EST), with a mark of 20-06.50 feet (6.26m) during Wednesday’s preliminary round which placed ninth overall and just ahead of Seward’s mark of 20-06.25 feet (6.25m), which tied for 10th.

Etienne ran the 14th-fastest time in the 400-meter prelims, clocking in at 53.34 seconds. She will run in the semifinals Friday at 10:05 p.m. (EST).

Also competing Wednesday was junior Khadija Talley who finished 26th in the discus prelims with a mark of 149-08 feet (45.63m).

Thursday’s action will see sophomore Krista Simkins, who was crowned the 2007 ACC Outdoor Champion in the 200-meters, run in the first round of the 200 at 7:50 p.m. (EST) followed by the UM 4×400-meter relay team of freshman Kristy Whyte, Etienne, sophomore Ena Leufroy and Simkins competing in the semifinals at 11:10 p.m. (EST).
