May 25, 2006
Greensboro, N.C. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s track and field team will have three student-athletes competing at the NCAA East Regional Championships this weekend at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Leading the UM contingent is sophomore All-American Tim Harris (Miami Booker T. Washington). Harris, the ACC Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the 800-meters, has won a total of five events during the indoor and outdoor seasons and currently ranks sixth in the East region in the event.
A pleasant surprise for the Hurricanes this season has been the success of sophomore Lance Leggett (Bartow, Fla.). Leggett, a wide receiver on the UM football team who is in his first season on the track and field team, won the ACC title in the 400-hurdles this season and was runner-up in 110-meter hurdles and 60-meter hurdles.
Leggett will compete in the 110-meter hurdles this weekend and currently ranks fourth in the East region.
Freshman Elan Daviglus (Miami Northwest Christian) qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the high jump. Daviglus established a UM record in the high jump (2.08m/6-09.75) during the indoor season, and recorded the second-best jump in school-history (2.10m/6-10.75) this outdoor season.
Competition begins Friday with field events at 11:00 a.m., while track events will begin at 4:00 p.m.
