The Hurricanes divided into two teams of Green and White and played a four-game intrasquad scrimmage. The coaching staff rotated players between games to group different teams and tryout probable lineups.
“I think the scrimmage went well,” said head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch. “We did some really nice things out there.”
Some of the standouts offensively were middle blocker Francheska Savage and outside hitter Karla Johnson. Setters Jill Robinson and Bridget Bomhack were also excellent contributors on offense.
“Frannie was very effective offensively, Karla also played well, as usual,” noted Lantagne Welch. “I thought both Jill and Bridget did a nice job of running the courts.”
The strong play of outside hitter Sara Duncan also stood out, “We had one game where Sara played some of the best volleyball that I’ve seen,” said Lantagne Welch.
Among other positives seen in the scrimmage were the team’s passing and the outstanding serving from Savage and libero Kaitlin Kozak.
“Kaitlin and Frannie served extremely well. They caused the other teams problems with their serving,” said Lantagne Welch.
“We definitely have a lot of things to build from. We have a week and a couple days before we play, so we are going to be ready. We are going to fine tune some things, keep working on it and build from what we did today.”
The Hurricanes cap off their preseason training with an Alumni match Saturday, August 27th at 3:00 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex. The match is open to both students and the general public.
