Etienne Sets Haitian 400-Meter Record

Nassua, The Bahamas (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sophomore Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) set a Haitian national record in the 400-meters, and former Hurricane Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) placed third in the shot put this past weekend at the 2005 Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championships in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Etienne, a three-time All-American, established a new Haitian record in the 400-meters with a time of 52.69 in the preliminary heat on Friday. Etienne posted a time of 52.87 in Saturday’s final to finish eighth.

Barrett, the 2005 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor shot put champion, placed third at the CAC Championships with a throw of 18.03 meters (59-02.00). Olympic gold medalist Yumiledy Cumba Gay (Cuba) won the CAC title with a meet record throw of 18.98 meters (62-03.25) while Olympic finalist Cleopatra Borel (Trinidad & Tobago) placed second (18.05 meters/59-02.75).
