Miller Named Athlete of the Year

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) has been named the recipient of 2005 Babe Didrickson Zaharias Award, presented annually by the Sports Society to the most outstanding female professional or amateur athlete.
Miller will be presented the award on Monday, May 9 at the annual Sports Society Awards dinner held in the Grand Slam Ballroom at Don Shula’s Hotel in Miami Lakes.

Now in its 24th year, former winners of the Babe Didrickson Zaharias award have included track star Evelyn Ashford, volleyball great Flo Hyman, University of Miami diving legend Wendy Williams and basketball great Nancy Lieberman Kline. Last year’s recipient was University of Miami sprinter and Olympic silver medalist Lauryn Williams.
Miller has recorded three tournament wins and finished in the top-10 of four other events this season. She ranks 17th in the nation in the Golfstat Cup rankings and leads the team with a 74.1 stoke average.
Miller has finished in the top-5 in four of her last five tournaments including two victories. Her win at the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship helped the Hurricanes win the state title for the first time since 1991.
Miller becomes the fourth Hurricane to be honored by the Sports Society joining Wendy Williams, Yolanda McCray and Lauryn Williams.
