Q & A with Valeria Tipiana

Senior rightside hitter Valeria Tipiana is enjoying a successful senior season. She has been the ACC leader in service aces since the start of the season and most recently lead the Hurricanes to their fifth three-game sweep of the season when they defeated Wake Forest, 3-0 in the Knight Sports Complex on October 1st. Tipiana was three assists shy of a triple-double when she posted 25 kills, 19 digs and seven assists in the five game loss on October 3rd.

What are your interests and hobbies outside volleyball? Eating, listening to music, making phone calls, cooking, sleeping and talking.

Why did you choose the University of Miami?I choose Miami because it was the closest school to my family’s house and they could stay close to me.

What was your first impression of Miami? I noticed lots of trees, especially palm trees and it was really hot.

Why did you start playing volleyball?I started playing volleyball because my parents wanted me to play a sport and after trying some out, volleyball was the one that I liked most.

When did you start playing volleyball?I started playing in 1996, when I was 12 years old.

What is your best sports memory?My best sports memory was being able to play for Peru and most of my family coming to see me play.

What did you do this summer?This summer I worked out, took classes and played in my first beach volleyball tournament, which was really fun and interesting.

What are your goals at Miami both in and outside volleyball? My goals are to do the best I can in both and feel happy with any accomplishments that I can achieve.

Where do you see yourself in five years?I don’t know, we’ll see when it comes!
