Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Senior Matt Mulvaney (South Hadley, Mass.) won the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:02.34 and six Hurricanes qualified for the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships to highlight action at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.

Miami had three sprinters qualify for the BIG EAST Championships in the 55-meters including sophomore Terrell Walden (Miami Edison) who finished third with at time of 6.32 second, freshman Devin Hester (Riviera Beach, Fla.) who finished seventh in a time of 6.36 seconds and junior Tanard Davis (Miami Southridge) who finished eighth in a time of 6.37 seconds.

Hester also qualified in the long jump finishing 12th with a leap of 7.10 meters (23-03.50). Freshman Jon Beason also recorded a BIG EAST qualifying mark in the long jump with a jump of 6.82 meters (22-04.50).

In the 200-meters, sophomore Darnell Jenkins (Miami Central) finished 13th with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 22.33 seconds.

The Hurricanes return to action at the Tiger Invitational, Feb. 14, in Clemson, S.C.
