Miami Volleyball Falls to Pittsburgh, 3-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami volleyball team fell to BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh, 3-1 (22-30, 20-24, 30-26, 30-23) on Sunday afternoon at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes (19-7, 7-2 BIG EAST) downed the Panthers (19-4, 8-1 BIG EAST) in the first game, 30-22, out hitting Pittsburgh .500 to .279. The Panthers would respond in the second frame, taking UM, 30-24 while posting a .400 hitting percentage. The Panthers would go on to win games two and three, 30-26 and 30-23 to seal the victory.
Sophomore middle blocker Karla Johnson (Houston, Texas) posted a season-high 17 kills and seven total blocks in the Hurricanes’ loss and freshman setter Jill Robinson (Merced, Calif.) turned in a career best 53 assists.
“Karla did an outstanding job for us today,” Head Coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “She was our go-to person on offense and defense. Francheska Savage (Ft. Myers, Fla.) also had a great performance today.”
The Panthers’ Wendy Hatlestad led all players with 27 kills while Megan Miller, Sarah Rollman and Megan McGrane each turned in double figure digs.
The Hurricanes will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 4, hosting Central Florida at the Convocation Center at 7 p.m. This will mark the first time in school history the Hurricanes have played in the Convocation Center.
