CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami volleyball team fell to No. 10 Arizona, 3-0 on Friday night at the Wildcat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. to record their first loss of the season.
The Wildcats (3-3) snapped Miami’s (5-1) five-game undefeated streak by out hitting the Hurricanes .330 to .155.
“This was a disappointing loss for us because it was a great opportunity for our team, and we didn’t have a few players show up ready to play,” Head Coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “Leyre Santaella Sante had a good game for us and Karla Johnson was great off the bench.”
The Wildcats edged out UM in the first game, winning 32-30 before overpowering the Hurricanes in the second frame 30-18. Arizona overtook Miami in the third game, 30-28 to win the match and hand the Hurricanes their first loss of the season.
Senior outside hitter Leyre Santaella Sante led the Hurricanes with 13 kills while posting a .357 hitting percentage and collecting 14 points.
The Hurricanes will return to action on the final day of the Wildcat Classic, facing No. 20 Santa Clara at 10 a.m. (PT).
