Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) solidified her status as one of the United States top young sprinters by anchoring the USA women’s 4×100-meter relay to the Gold medal at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The gold medal is the second of the games for Williams who won 100-meters on Wednesday evening. Joining Williams on the relay were Angela Williams, Connie Moore and Angela Daigle. Running in lane one, the relay posted a time of 43.06 for the victory.

“This was a team effort all the way,” said Williams after the race. “I was nervous when I got the baton. I got it pretty much even with the Cuban. I wanted to leave on the mark and just think ‘catch me if you can’. We sucked it up and did it. I feel so good about winning and representing the United States.”

Williams has now won three gold medals while representing the United States in international competition. Last summer she won the gold medal in the 100-meters at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition to her gold medals, Williams took home a silver medal as a member of the USA 4×100-meter relay at the World Junior Championships.

Already a five-time All-American, Williams earned All-America honors in the 60-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay last season. She is currently the UM record holder in five events including the 55-meters, 60-meters, indoor 200-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay.

Last season Williams was ranked ninth in the United States in the 100-meters by Track and Field News.
