A Note from the Czar:
Things are really coming together with this project! Its amazing how soonthe opening game will be here. Turner is almost done with theconstruction, Global Spectrum is adding to their staff rapidly and theAthletic Department is gearing up for the big day. Our donors have nowreceived their ticket invoices and are ready for the 2002-03 basketballseason!

Feature: Meet Eric Shoup, Food and Beverage Director
One of the biggest questions on our minds is, “So, will the food be goodat the Convocation Center?” The answer is simple, “Yes.” Global Spectrumhired Eric Shoup to be the Convo’s Food and Beverage Director. Unlike theother arenas and stadiums in South Florida, the Convocation Center willnot be using a third party vendor to make the food. Eric reports directlyto Global Spectrum which will definitely be a big plus when it comes tothe food’s quality!
Eric, a former professional baseball player in the Detroit Tigers farmsystem, is originally from Pittsburgh. He comes to Miami from Marylandwhere he worked at Harry Grove Stadium, home of the Baltimore Oriolessingle A affiliate. He also had his own restaurant from 1995-99. Besidesthe traditional hot dogs and hamburgers, Eric plans to have a differentspecialty items on the Convo’s menu, such as seafood dishes!
New Facts/Figures & Construction Update:
99% of the fixed seats have been completely installed and mounted.(The fixed seats are all the chair backs starting from Row K)Overall the building is between 85-90% completeTurner has begun painting the exterior facade (see picture above)Construction of Walsh Dr. has been started. Walsh is the road thatruns directly in front of the Center’s box office and front entrance.The North and West parking lots directly on site have been asphaltedand are currently in use by Turner and Global Spectrum.Building 44 (the old dorm behind Global Spectrum’s trailer) has beencompletely demolished.
