Volleyball Falls To FIU In Five Games

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Florida International avenged a 3-0 loss to Miami Wednesday in the Knight Sports Complex when they escaped from the Hurricanes in five games.
It was just the second loss for the Hurricanes (17-2 overall) on the season. The Golden Panthers improved to 6-14 overall with the upset victory.
FIU took the first two games 30-26 and 31-29 until the Hurricanes cruised in the third and fourth with 30-27 and 30-21 wins. Despite a strong effort by the Hurricanes, the Golden Panthers escaped with the 18-16 win in the final game.
The Golden Panthers were led by Adriana Fundora, who had a match-high 26 kills as well as a match-high 20 digs.
Marcela Gamarra (Medellin, Colombia/Miami-Dade CC) led the Hurricanes with 17 kills. Mallorey James (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) generated a match-high 37 assists. Robin Lewullis (Allentown, Penn./Allentown Central Catholic) had a career high 10 kills and led the Hurricanes at the net with nine total blocks.
UM’s next match is Monday at 7 p.m. against a strong South Florida team in the Knight Sports Complex.
