Women's Golf Opens Season At Lady Kat Invitational

Lexington, KY (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team will open its season this weekend, September 13-15, at the Lady Kat Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.
The tournament will take place at the University Club of Kentucky on the par-72, 6,150-yard, Big Blue Course. Play each day will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The 15-team tournament field features 12 programs that finished last season ranked among the top-100 teams in the nation by Golfweek.com. Miami, which ended last season ranked 55th in the nation, will be joined by No. 8 Tennessee, No. 37 Mississippi State, No. 42 South Florida, No. 45 Alabama, No. 46 Mississippi, No. 50 Kentucky, No. 52 Louisville, No. 56 Penn State, No. 82 Arkansas, No. 88 Cal State Northridge and No. 94 Maryland. Rounding out the tournament field will be Illinois State, Northern Kentucky and Richmond.
The Hurricanes return all but one player from last season’s squad including NCAA Independent Player of the Year Camilla Hilland (Lommedalen, Norway) and NCAA Independent Rookie of the Year Tina Miller (Miami, FL/Archbishop Curley Notre Dame).
Hilland, who ended the season ranked 65th in the nation, received an NCAA at-large berth becoming the first Hurricane since 1998 to reach the post-season. Earlier in the year she won the Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship becoming the first Hurricane since Tracy Kerdyk in 1988 to win the state title.
Miller came on strong in the spring recording top-10 finishes in all five tournaments. She was the Hurricanes top finisher in three tournaments and tied Camilla Hilland for the team’s best stroke average (75.0) during the spring.
