Dominique Gagnon excels in golf and grades

Junior Dominique Gagnon, an outstanding member of the golf team, has been selected the January 2001 Academic-All Star after setting an example both on and off the green.
Gagnon, who double-majors in public relations and Spanish, has achieved academic and athletic excellence. This past season, she competed in all four fall tournaments and recorded an 81.2 stroke average, the team’s second-best fall average. She placed second in the team in two out of four tournaments, and her best season-performance was at the Pine Needles Invitational, where she recorded a two-round score of 158 (80-78) and tied for 25th place in the tournament.
As a sophomore, she played in all nine tournaments, recording one top-ten and three top-twenty finishes. She ranked third on the team with a 78.0 stroke average and was the team’s top finisher in three events. She recorded 18 rounds under the 70s including a team high of 11 consecutive rounds from November to April. Gagnon qualified for the 2001 Women’s Open, finishing fifth at the Sectional Qualifier in West Palm Beach.
As a freshman, she competed in every fall tournament and ranked second on the team with a 78.6 average per round. She also posted a season low round of 73 at the Charleston Invitational.
A younger Gagnon was won the title of Dominican Republic Junior Female National Champion in each of her four years. In 1997, she was one of only three women golfers to qualify for both the United States Amateur Championships and the U.S. Juniors. One year earlier, Gagnon competed internationally in the 1996 World Amateur Championships in the Philippines as a member of the Dominican Republic’s National Team. She played on her high school’s boy team and won the high school national championship all four years.
