Monika Manios Named BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Award Winner

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The BIG EAST Conference announced University of Miami senior women’s rower Monika Manios was named a 2001-02 BIG EAST/Aeropostale Female Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

Manios, who holds a 3.416 GPA in Architecture, will receive a $2,000 scholarship towards her graduate studies. She has twice been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star for the 1999-00 and 2000-01 seasons. Additionally, Manios was a member of the Dean’s List for Fall 1999 and 2001, along with being named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in Fall 1999, Spring 2001 and Fall 2001. She has also earned Athletic Academic Services Book Buster recognition in Fall 1999 and Fall 2001.

Manios came to Miami for the 1999-2000 year after attending the University Technology School of Delft in Holland. A native of Haarlem, Holland, Manios began rowing at the novice level in 1997. At Miami, she has rowed with the varsity eights over the last three seasons.
