UM Golfers Third At Beacon Woods Invitational

Bayonet Point, FL – The University of Miami women’s golf team shot an opening round 311 and is in a third-place tie with Memphis at the Beacon Woods Invitational in Bayonet Point, FL.
Host South Florida is in first-place after firing 309 on the opening day, but things are crowded at the top as five school are within three strokes of the lead. Central Florida shot 310 on Friday and is in second. Georgia State (312) and Florida International (312) are just three strokes back in fifth-place.
Freshman Jazmin Cataldo (Asuncion, Paraguay) fired an opening round 77 to lead Miami. Cataldo is currently in 13th place just four strokes behind first round leaders Kelly Lagedrost (South Florida), Michelle Simpson (Florida International), Ellen Dunne (Florida International) and Meaghan Francella (Memphis).
Three other Hurricanes find themselves only five strokes back after day one. Senior Ashleigh Barrett-Hamilton (Karoi, Zimbabwe), sophomore Dominique Gagnon (La Romana, Domincan Republic) and freshman Katie Buscemi (Plantation, FL) all shot 78 and are in a tie for 16th.
Second round action begins tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. with the final round taking place Sunday.
