Eric Campbell Named Assistant Men's Track Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Athletic Director Paul Dee and head men’s trackcoach Mike Ward announce the hiring of Eric Campbell (Miramar, FL) to theposition of assistant track coach at the University of Miami. Campbell willcoach hurdles and jumps.

“We are very excited to have Eric Campbell join our staff,” saidWard. “He is an outstanding jumper who has had a tremendous amount ofsuccess both individually and as a coach. We expect him to really help usimprove in the jumping events.”

Campbell, 25, was a two-year letterman at the University of Miami(1993 and 1994) and won the 1994 BIG EAST triple jump title. Campbell stillholds the University of Miami triple jump record (51-05.75) and is member ofthe school record holding distance medley relay (10:09.24).

In 1996, Campbell transferred to California Baptist University inRiverside, CA where he went on to win two NAIA National Titles in the triplejump (1996, 1997). In 1998, Campbell was hired as an assistant coach incharge of sprints and jumps at California Baptist. That season Campbellguided Eric Boykin to the NAIA National Championship in the triple jump andJimmy Devine to the NAIA National Title in the long jump.

Prior to transferring to California Baptist, Campbell coachedsprints and jumps for one season (1995) at Miami Northwestern High School.While at Northwestern, Campbell coached athletes that went on to win fourstate titles and seven all-state honors including Shannell McMiller, the1997 High School National Champion in the triple jump.

Campbell earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology fromCalifornia Baptist University in 1999.
