1999 Hurricane Club Video Transcript
Rio Ramirez (Swimming & Diving): I started to dive when I was six years old, and I’ve been moving up in the diving world rankings.
Andre King (Football): It’s good to follow in the footsteps of many of the great student-athletes that have come and gone through here and me to uphold their traditions, their values that they left behind. It’s just a great honor.
Mike Lynch (Assistant Athletic Director): The Hurricane Club allows student-athletes the opportunity to take part in one of the nations best athletic programs. It also, of course, allows them to come to a top-notch university and get a great education that’s going to help them on down the road once their playing careers are over.
Paul Dee (Athletic Director): The Hurricane Club is extraordinarily important to the University of Miami athletic program. In order for the athletic program to be successful we have to be successful in every way, and that includes raising the resources that we need to sponsor our athletic program. One way that we ask our friends in the community to help us is through sponsorships in the Hurricane Club and through participation in the Hurricane Club.
Christal White (Women’s Basketball): I’m so lucky to be here, to be a Hurricane. It’s the greatest organization I think that I can be involved in, and it was a wonderful decision. I have supportive coaches, a wonderful athletic department… it’s a great opportunity.
Jennifer Sanchez (Women’s Soccer): My parents wouldn’t have been able to put me through college on their own, and it’s helped me to be able to play soccer in college as well as go to college and get a degree in whatever field I decide.
Dallas Lehman (Hurricane Club Donor): As you know I’m a graduate from the University of Miami. I feel it’s very important to give back to the organization, not only because of the athletic program, but because of the educational institution itself. I feel it’s a great way to better the community.
Gerald Loisel (Hurricane Club Donor): I’m so proud of the UM Athletic program and I feel so good about what I am doing, that for me, calling people up and asking them to get involved and participating and making a contribution is easy, because I really believe in it. I believe that these students are really benefiting from what we do and I feel good hearing that they appreciate our efforts. It just makes it easier for me to put in the time and to convince other people to get involved.
Gary Krulik, M.D. (Hurricane Club Donor): I think the ability to help these young men and women partake in sports at the university is wonderful. It’s also great to be involved in the sports program and see the excitement of the athletes as well as the students. There’s a great feeling of camaraderie at the University. I would highly encourage anybody to contribute and take part in the sports program.
Mike Rodriguez (Baseball): Receiving an athletic scholarship has really helped me continue playing baseball and having an opportunity to continue my education as well, so when I’m through with baseball I have something to look forward to.
Jenise Winston (Women’s Track & Field): I’d like to thank the people that contribute to the athletic department and to the Hurricane Club for helping the athletes to have a scholarship and to be able to take part in being at the University of Miami.
Marielle Wild (Women’s Golf): Thank you. You’re making dreams come true. It’s just incredible what you are doing. You’re making lifetime opportunities. I can just say thank you.
Vernon Jennings (Men’s Basketball): Your help, your support, I guess without you I wouldn’t be here.
Mike Lynch (Assistant Athletic Director): In making contributions to the Hurricane Club people are really helping our student athletes to take part in a great university and a great athletic program. We have a number of people in the community who are interested in helping young people to get ahead in life. The Hurricane Club gives people that headstart, and gives them an opportunity to take part in things here at the University of Miami. It allows them to grow as people here at the university. It gives them the start that they need and once they move on they’ll always look back on their university experience as a positive one.
Rio Ramirez (Swimming & Diving): Just the opportunity to be diving with the best team, and the best coach, in the nation. It’s wonderful. I have no words to explain that, It’s a great feeling.
