Volleyball Announces 2002 Schedule

Coral Gables,Fla. – Head coach Nicole Lantagne announced the 2002 Miami volleyball schedulethis afternoon. The Hurricanes begin competition in the BIG EAST Conference thisfall after competing as an independent last season.

UM participates in three tournaments to begin the season including marquee matchupsagainst Georgia, Oregon and Florida State.

The schedule includes two conference champions (Notre Dame – BIG EAST, FIU – SunBelt) and three teams that advanced to conference championship games (StephenF. Austin -Southland, Florida State – ACC, FAU – Atlantic Sun).

Miami defeated the two BIG EAST opponents it faced last season with wins overPittsburgh and St. John’s. Notre Dame won the 2001 BIG EAST Conference title witha perfect 12-0 record. The Hurricanes host the Irish in Coral Gables on November15th.

Coach Lantagne guided a young Miami team to a 17-7 overall record last year inits first season of volleyball since 1981. UM finished the season on an 11-matchwin streak and compiled a 13-1 home record at the Knight Complex in Coral Gables.
