Schwartz, Keim, Prandi, Weir Claim BIG EAST Titles
Feb. 19, 2000
UNIONDALE, NY – Freshman Elaine Schwartz continued her stellar inaugural season with a victory in the 400-yard individual medley at the BIG EAST Championships. Fellow freshman Brittany White finished second to Schwartz in the 400-yard IM as both swimmers provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
On the women’s side, the Hurricanes also received solid efforts from All-American and 1999 NCAA Diver of the Year Jenny Keim and junior Jen Weir. Keim, who won the three-meter diving event on Thursday, took the one-meter event on Friday. This marks the second consecutive year that Keim has won both the one- and three-meter events and the fourth straight year that the Hurricanes have won the one- and three-meter events for the women. Weir, who is coming off her BIG EAST record-setting performance in the 200-yard IM, took home first place in the 200-yard freestyle.
On the men’s side, the Hurricane divers took home the top three spots in the three-meter diving event, which comes on the heels of a clean sweep in the one-meter on Thursday. Miami was led by freshman Kyle Prandi, who took first, followed by sophomore All-American Imre Lengyel and senior All-American Tyce Routson.
The Miami men are currently in fifth place overall, while the women are holding on to second.
The championships will continue through Feb. 19.
