Lane Carico Named to All-ACC Volleyball Team
Nov. 24, 2010
Greensboro, N.C. – For the third consecutive season, University of Miami outside hitter Lane Carico has been selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Team, announced Wed., Nov. 24, by Commissioner John Swofford from the ACC Office in Greensboro, N.C. The honors are determined by a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.
Carico, a 5-11 junior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., is the only Hurricanes student-athlete on this year’s All-conference team. In 2008, she was tabbed the league’s Freshman of the Year, and is a two-time AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All-East Region performer, in addition to being a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member.
The Hurricanes, who lead the league in hitting percentage (.256), are charged by Carico offensively with 434 kills (3.84 per set) – ranking her third overall in the ACC in that department. Carico is also third in the conference in points (492.5 / 4.36 per set), adding a team-best 36 service aces (0.32 per set) and 37 blocks (8 solo / 29 assisted). As a team, Miami leads the league in kills with 1,623 (14.36 per set).
On the year, Carico totes a .235 clip (434k-132e-1,283ta) while ranking second on the team in digs with 426 (3.77 per set). She is the only ACC player this season with 400-plus kill and 400-plus digs, with this being the second straight season she’s accomplished that task, finishing the 2009 campaign with a team-best 506 kills and 402 digs.
Carico leads the league in double-doubles (24), while owning a streak of 14 consecutive between Sun., Oct. 3 (at NC State) and Fri., Nov. 19 (vs. Boston College). Carico owns a team-leading 60 double-doubles in her career, including 18 matches with 20-plus kills – and two matches with 30-plus kills performances.
Duke led all ACC teams with five All-ACC accolades. Georgia Tech and North Carolina followed with three picks apiece, while Florida State and Virginia Tech each had two. Clemson, Miami, and Wake Forest each garnered one honoree.
This year’s ACC Player of the Year is Duke junior setter Kellie Catanach who leads the conference in assists (1,215 / 11.36 per set). The Freshman of the Year is Virginia’s right side McKenzie Adams, and the Coach of the Year is Jolene Nagel of Duke. The Defensive Player of the Year is UNC libero junior Kaylie Gibson, leading the ACC in digs with 645 (5.56 per set).
