3rd Annual Women in Sports Day

On Thursday, February 3, 2005, the University of Miami Athletic Department hosted their 3rd Annual Women in Sports Day event. There were 200 middle school girls from Allpattah Middle, Lawton Chiles Middle, Highland Oaks Middle, W. R. Thomas Middle, West Miami Middle, and Nautilus Middle that participated in the event. With help from members of the UM Volleyball, Rowing, Soccer, Track, and Cheerleading teams, the children worked on their skills in six different sports and were treated to a motivational speech by Olympic Silver Medalist, Lauryn Williams. The event concluded with all the participants attending the Hurricanes vs. Duke Women’s Basketball game at the Convocation Center.
