Gallagher Named To ACC All-Freshmen Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman setter Katie Gallagher was named to the 2007 ACC Volleyball All-Freshmen Team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference office Tuesday.
Gallagher, a native of Winter Park, Fla., led the team in assists in becoming the first Miami freshman to record 1,000 assists in a season, finishing with 1,243 on the year. Her assist total ranked fifth in the conference this season and is the third-highest total in school history.
She led the team and ranked second in the conference with 67 service aces, playing in all 113 games for Miami in 2007. She recorded at least 50 assists on seven occasions with her season-high of 62 coming at Virginia, Sept. 21. Her top performance on the season came when she recorded a triple-double against Jacksonville, Aug. 25, with 40 assists, a career-high 19 digs and a school-record 11 aces.
The ACC All-Freshmen team honors six of the conference’s top first-year performers. Six of the twelve ACC schools were represented with Virginia Tech’s Felicia Willoughby earning ACC Freshman of the Year honors.
Gallagher, who also led UM with a .305 hitting percentage in conference play, is the first Hurricane to receive ACC All-Freshmen honors since Miami joined the league in 2004.
Other award winners include Duke’s Carrie DeMange who was named the ACC Player of the Year and Clemson head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover who was awarded ACC Coach of the Year.
