Miami Volleyball Takes Down FAU, 4-1

Boca Raton, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team took four-of-five sets from homestanding Florida Atlantic University on Saturday, using a 4-1 advantage in a spring competition at the FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Fla. Miami improves to 2-0 in head-to-head matches in the spring, also defeating Florida Gulf Coast in March.
Miami, playing in its third event of the spring, and the second head-to-head competition of the four-event spring calendar, went five sets with the Owls regardless of score. Both head coaches agreed to the five-set system prior to the match.
The Hurricanes opened the match collecting a 25-14 victory, before grabbing a 25-15 win in the second frame. UM collected the match win in the third set, claiming a 27-25 win in the most exciting match of the day.
In the fourth set, FAU erased a 3-0 deficit in the match to claim the 25-21 victory, putting the match at 3-1 in favor of the `Canes.
Both teams went to a fifth-set tie-break decision to cap off the day, with UM turning in a 15-13 win for the final 4-1 edge in the match.
Miami will continue its spring practices before concluding the spring slate with the annual Fiesta on Siesta Key beach volleyball classic on Sat., Apr. 17. Miami is participating as one of the 22-team field at the Collegiate Beach Volleyball Challenge on Siesta Key, Fla. Others participating in this year’s event include in-state schools such as Florida Gulf Coast, USF, Florida UCF, Stetson, Jacksonville, Florida State, Webber, Florida Atlantic, FIU and Southeastern – as well as a host of others outside the Sunshine State.

A full schedule of events and preview for the Fiesta on Siesta Key will be available on the UM athletics website as the event draws closer. Last season, UM had positive results at the annual tournament, seeing three teams finish in the top-half of their two-on-two beach volleyball brackets.
