Hurricanes Fall Short to No. 4 Virginia
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (12-9, 4-6 ACC) fought hard, but fell to the No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers (17-3, 9-1 ACC) on Sunday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The match opened with Virginia taking court two over Antonio Prat and Rafael Segado before Jakub Kroslak and Mehdi Sadaoui earned a huge win at the top court, 7-5, over No. 11 Dylan Dietrich and Stiles Brockett.
Court three’s Nacho Serra Sanchez and Jules Garot then fell 7-5 to Andres Santamarta and JangjunKim to drop the opening point.
Singles was a battle from start to finish, starting with a UVA win from Brockett over Segado, 6-1, 6-4, on court four. Sadaoui then pulled off a point for the Hurricanes on court five against Dahlberg, 7-5, 6-4 to cut the deficit. Kroslak fought hard on court three with No. 110 Kim but fell 6-2, 6-7, 5-6, while No. 113 fell 6-7, 7-5, 2-6 to No. 12 Keegan Rice.
Serra Sanchez was up 6-2, 6-7, 5-3 to No. 42 Santamarta, while Garot was tied 4-6, 7-5, 3-3 with Yaffa when play was halted.
The Hurricanes remain home to face UNC and Duke on April 3 and 5, respectively.
