No. 18 Miami Finishes Second in Benderson Cup Standings at Sarasota 2K Invitational
SARASOTA, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Miami Hurricanes rowing team closed out racing at the Sarasota 2K Invitational with four top-two finishes in the Grand Finals and a Petite Finals victory to earn second place in the regatta’s Benderson Cup Standings.
Miami finished behind only No. 14 UCF in the 19-team field and was bolstered Saturday by a series of strong performances from its varsity eight boats.
The 2V8 crew of Anna Langemann, Paula Espinosa Linares, Felipa Rosas Villalobos, Sara Caterisano, Agostina Manzotti Scolari, Kylie Evenson, Jane Elsner, Camila Cofré Lopez and Gabriela Snopková posted a second-place finish with a time of 7:03.04 in its Grand Final to best both No. 20 North Carolina and No. 15 Dartmouth in its lone race of the day at Nathan Benderson Park.
The 1V8 also posted a second-place finish with its time of 6:40.53 beating out both North Carolina and Dartmouth, and the 2V4 and 3V8 “A” earned silver medals as well.
The 2V4 opened racing for the Hurricanes on Saturday with a time of 7:36.78 and the 3V8 “A” posted a time of 7:11.22 in its race.
The Hurricanes’ 3V8 “B,” meanwhile, picked up a win in the 3V8 Petite Finals, with its time of 7:21.58 besting Jacksonville, Michigan State, and Kansas State.
“We had a fun and successful day of racing and it’s a strength of this team that our crews are able to make adjustments, improve race over race and can handle all kinds of conditions and situations they are faced with on the course,” Miami head coach James Mulcahy said. “It’s wonderful to have four crews win medals and even better was watching how supportive they were of each other throughout the regatta.
“Congratulations to UCF for their victory today, and a big ‘thank you’ to Nathan Benderson Park and to all the officials and volunteers who donated their time to put together another excellent iteration of the Sarasota 2K. We’re excited to get back to work on Monday and keep pushing Miami rowing forward.”
The Hurricanes will return to action next month when they travel to the UCF Invitational on April 17 and 18.
